National Defence Academy

The recruitment of candidates to the different wings of Indian defence forces (Army, Navy and Airforce) is conducted through NDA exam. The NDA exam is conducted twice in the year in the month of April (NDA 1) and in September (NDA 2). The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the conducting body of the National defence Academy and Naval Academy examinations.

The candidates selected in NDA examination will undergo cadet training in Indian Army, Airforce and Navy.

The candidates appearing for the NDA exam must fulfill the eligibility criteria, the details of the eligibility criteria have been mentioned below:

Nationality:

The applicants must be an Indian citizen or a subject of Bhutan/Nepal/Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 to become a permanent resident of India.

Age Limits:

• Only unmarried male applicants can apply for NDA 2018.
• For NDA (I), the applicants should not be born before 2nd July 1999 & not later than 1st July 2002.
• For NDA (II), the applicants should not be born before 2nd January 2000 and not later than 1st July 2003.

Educational Qualifications:

For Air Force & Naval Wings of National Defence Academy & for 12th Cadet Entry Scheme at Indian Naval Academy– The applicants should have cleared 12thstandard or equivalent examination with Physics & Mathematics from any state education board or university.
For Army Wings of National Defence Academy– The applicants should have cleared 12th standard or equivalent examination organized by any State education board or university.
• The applicants who are appearing in 12th standard or equivalent can also apply for NDA.

Physical Standards:

• The applicants must be physically fit as per the guidelines set by National Defence Academy & Naval Academy examinations.
• The applicants who have resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academies of Armed Forces are not eligible to apply for NDA.

• The applicants also have to pay the application fee to confirm their candidature.
• The application fee for General & OBC categories is Rs. 100/-.
• The application will be exempted for SC/ST and sons of JCOs/NCOs/Ors.
• The fee can be paid through online (via net banking/master/debit card).
• The fee can also be paid through offline (via cash in at any branch of SBI) mode.

The selection process of NDA/NA will complete in 3 stages
1. Written examination
2. SSB Interview
3. Medical review by Command Hospital
The applicants will be selected on the basis of marks scored in written examination & Interview rounds. The interview will be completed in 2 stages- Stage I & II. Stage I includes Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) & Picture Perception & Description Test (PP & DT). Stage II includes interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Test & conference. These tests will be organized for 4-5 days.


The examination syllabus of NDA 2018 has been divided into 2 parts- Mathematics & General Ability Test. The General Ability Test includes questions from different topics such as Chemistry, English, General Science, GK, Geography, Physics & Current Affairs.

The NDA exam will be offline based and there will be MCQ type questions in NDA exam. There will be a penalty for each wrong answer. The applicants will have to use only black ball pen to marks their answers. The examination will have 2 parts- Mathematics & General Ability Test.

• Students can get their admit card via online mode through the website.
• Candidates note down the NDA hall ticket will not be sent by post.
• Candidates have to fill up details like RID, Date of Birth or Roll Number & other details, to download the admit card.
• The admit card bear exam related details like exam centre, exam date & timing, students name, roll number etc.
• Candidates will not be permitted to appear in the examination, without admit card.
